'The Sunday Post'

This is my end of the week blog post, although technically our weeks go from Tuesday-Saturday, due to our Youth Street ministry which takes place on Saturday.

The past few weeks have been so amazing! We started our new term for Youth Street by getting 19 new DTS students and spent a couple of sessions with them training them on our values and preparing them for Youth Street and what their roles would be. I am currently leading one of our connect teams on Saturday, basically this is like a mini-outreach team! The team includes two staff members, myself and another girl named Talea, then there are three students, two girls and one guy; Lynnaea, Melissa, and Michael. Our current area of focus is the suburb in which we live in, Mayfield. Mayfield was formally known as a beautiful garden suburb, nowadays it doesn't quite have that reputation. However, this is where my team comes in.. Our goal is to renew Mayfield back to the garden suburb it was once known to be. For the past couple of weeks we've been able to pray and read through the book of Acts from the bible out loud in a few areas that are well known in Mayfield. We have been very deliberate these past couple of weeks in sowing seeds and laying a foundation of prayer before we really get into actually doing people focused things…We felt that these steps would pave the way for whatever ministry we will be doing… It truly has been incredible because I know for at least myself God has given me more of a heart for the area we live in and I feel inspired to see change.

This past term Talea, the other staff member on the team, was leading another connect team that was doing outreach to the community. They served through various methods, one of which was mowing the lawn of an elder widowed woman. The woman whose lawn they mowed informed the team that she had been diagnosed with mouth cancer and physical evidence showed how the disease was deteriorating away at the interior as well as the exterior of the woman's mouth. The team was more than willing to mow her lawn and also wanted to offer more to the woman, they asked her if they could pray for her, but the woman didn't really feel comfortable with that and refused. The woman was, however, alright for them to pray on their way out of the house… So after finishing up all the yard work, the team gathered together and prayed for the woman. They were praying for healing and for an openness to God. Talea didn't hear anything from the lady for about a month or so…fast-forward to this past Saturday night…the woman shows up at our house to speak with Talea…they grab some coffee & tea and settle into the den to talk, all the while Talea notices that there is something different about the woman but just cannot figure out what it is. The woman asks if it is possible for us to come and mow her lawn again, but before leaving it at just that she then informs Talea that she had recently been back to the doctor for her mouth cancer. The woman was informed by her doctor that she no longer had mouth cancer and within a few days, all the scars and cuts had cleared completely, she had been healed!

I love hearing about this story because that is my heart for Mayfield. I want to see miracles, I want to see people transformed!

Enjoy the rest of your week!

I'm Kelcie, I like people, baking, summer weather, the ocean, and Jesus!

Here's a bible verse that inspires me:  Mark 10:28-30

Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!""I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life.
