It's more than just cake.

What can cake decorating teach you about life?
In my last post I wrote about what I’ve learnt in my first two cake decorating classes and that got me thinking, cake decorating can actually teach you some life lessons.

1. We are not perfect.

Every cake that gets baked comes out different than the last and it takes time to smooth and level the cake before it is frosted and decorated. This reminded me of the fact that we’re all on a journey; it is called life. Each of us has our areas in need of growth, don’t compare what you’re working on or the timeline for your growth to anyone else. Know that things take time, keep working to be the best version of you that is possible.

2. Be who you are, you’re unique.
Yes, essentially all cakes are the same but then again they’re not. There are different flavours, colours, frostings, shapes. It’s the same with us we’re all people, don’t envy what you’re not, know that you are unique. There is no one from the beginning of time until now that is the same as you or ever will be the same. I’ve tried to find some calculations of how many people that actually would be but I’ve been unable to get any clear estimates; one study suggested since 2,000 BC -1990 there have been 56 billion people, that is a lot of people and not a single one the same. Everyone has something to share and the world wouldn't be the same without you.
What will you share with the world that no one else can?

3. It's what's on the inside that counts.
Yes, we are judged on our appearance, I do think that should matter to us to some degree. It is good to be aware what people are perceiving from us in the area of how we look and if that aligns with what you want people to understand about you. However, their perception definitely should not dictate our every decision on what we wear, how we do our hair, wether or not we wear makeup, etc.
In the cake world you have complete creative liberty to decorate your cake however you want but you know what? If that cake is too dry, tough, burnt or the flavour isn't quite right, there's no amount of decoration that can fix that. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control that's what I want to reflect from the inside out.

This is radical. Love the simplicity yet complexity of us as individuals. It really is beautiful.

I'm Kelcie, I like people, baking, summer weather, the ocean, and Jesus!

Here's a bible verse that inspires me:  Mark 10:28-30

Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!""I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life.
